What Has Happened With Home REIT?

These concerns escalated further on 3 January 2023, when trading in Home REIT shares was suspended. More than a year later, that suspension remains in place, leaving investors unable to buy, sell, or otherwise manage their holdings.
Ongoing Valuation and Portfolio Concerns
Additional uncertainty emerged on 20 December 2023, when Home REIT announced a material reduction in the valuation of its property portfolio.
The August 2023 valuation revealed that the portfolio was valued at just 42.26% of the unaudited historical acquisition costs. Early findings also suggested that a larger proportion of the properties were held within the private rented sector, rather than being used primarily for homeless accommodation supported by exempt local authority rents, as many investors believed at the time of investing.
Serious Fraud Office Investigation
As a result of these developments, six individuals have been arrested, and the Serious Fraud Office is currently conducting a bribery and fraud investigation into the former management of Home REIT.
For investors, this has led to prolonged uncertainty, with many having already realised substantial losses, while others remain trapped holding investments showing significant paper losses, with no clear resolution in sight.
